Hardwood flooring brings options and benefits

There are different species of hardwood, which gives you a wide range of options to choose from. From oak to maple to cherry – you will find the type of hardwood you want for your home.

There are also two main types of hardwood flooring: engineered hardwood and solid hardwood. While they have similarities, each type brings its own benefit to the table.

Engineered hardwood floors are typically manufactured with thin sheets (or plies) of wood which are laminated together to form a single plank. These sheets are stacked on top of each other in opposite directions, creating a wood floor that is more stable and more resilient against moisture.

Engineered hardwood can be stapled, glued, nailed down or floated over a variety of subfloors. This type of floor covering comes in varying widths and lengths, giving you a myriad of options for your renovation or remodel. The width of the wood planks will impact the feel of a room as well, which is something else to keep in mind.

Talk to one of our flooring specialists to find out more information on engineered hardwood flooring and if it is a good fit for your home.

For solid hardwood floors, a good place to start is selecting a wood species. Depending on where you are installing the wood floors, you may choose a specific wood type over another. The harder the species, the more durable they will be even in busy, active spaces. In rooms where the traffic flow isn’t as busy, you can choose softer woods. Choosing too soft a wood can lead to premature wear and other undesirable effects, so be sure to discuss your needs carefully with your flooring specialist. Solid hardwood species are rated on the Janka Scale for hardness.

If you have any questions on the differences between engineered and solid hardwood, please stop by our showroom today. We will help you figure out what type best suits the needs of your renovation, style, and décor.
