Although today’s hardwood flooring is highly resistant to staining,
you may encounter the need to clean a spot or spill so it does not
become a problem:
- Promptly wipe up any spills with a clean, white cloth or paper
towel to avoid staining.
- Remove spots and residues with only a clean, white cloth dampened
with warm water or an approved hard surface cleaner such as FloorCare
Essentials. Buff dry with a clean, white cloth or paper
towel.
- Do not use waxes, soaps or household cleaners that contain lemon
oil, tung oil or ammonia.
- For hard-to-remove stains, such as ink, crayon, nail polish
and cigarette burns, dampen a clean, white cloth or paper towel
with mineral spirits* and rub the spot until clean. Repeat
this process, if necessary until the stain has been eliminated.
Remove all residue with warm water and buff dry with a clean,
white cloth or paper towel.
- For problems such as chewing gum, candle wax or dried-on food,
allow them to harden and gently scrape with a dull knife or plastic
scraper (such as a credit card) to remove. Ice may be helpful
in accelerating the hardening process. Once the piece(s)
have been removed, clean any remaining residue with a clean white
cloth dampened with warm water or approved hard surface cleaner
such as FloorCare Essentials.
Rinse and buff dry with a clean, white cloth or paper towel.
*Note that mineral spirits are flammable, use only as directed.
