Vinyl Preventive Maintenance
Despite what some manufacturers may claim, resilient flooring can
be scuffed or torn if not properly maintained. Follow these simple
steps to keep your flooring looking like new:
Use protective mats
Good quality entry and exit mats will help collect the dirt, moisture,
grime, and sand that can damage your floor. Vacuum and/or
clean these regularly to minimize the risk of transfer to the floor.
Use floor protectors under furniture
Place glides or floor protectors under furniture legs. For items
on casters, use only clean, non-staining, hard rubber wheels - not
ball-shaped or plastic - to prevent scratches, scuffs and burns.
Clean your area rugs
If you use area rugs on your vinyl flooring, be sure to
vacuum them regularly to remove loose dirt and sand. Be sure
all area rugs are latex-backed, color-fast and completely dry before
placing on the floor.
Avoid direct UV sunlight exposure
Adjust blinds and shades during peak sunlight hours to minimize
UV and heat exposure of your resilient flooring. Use approved
area rugs and periodically rearrange furniture, as necessary.
Avoid Sharp or Extremely Heavy Objects
Stilletto heels and other sharp objects may indent or damage your
resilient floor. Try to minimize indentation of furniture
legs by using wide protectors that distribute the weight more evenly.
Sealing and Polishing
Some manufacturers require initial sealing of a newly installed
resilient floor. Consult your sales associate or manufacturer
information for specifics.
