The amount of care taken to protect your natural stone is directly related to the longevity of beauty and performance. To minimize wear and damage, consider the following steps:
Proper sealing of the stone and grout
Use a high-quality, compatible, impregnating or topical sealer to
properly protect your stone and grout from everyday spills and allow
extra time for clean up before stains set in. Proper preparation
of the stone surface is critical to the successful application of
sealants. Different stones have unique finishes, density and
porosity. Use a sealer that will protect your specific stone.
Be sure to observe proper cure times after installation before sealing,
typically up to 14 days. Note that most sealers will not protect
your stone from etching, which is a chemical reaction to direct
contact from acidic substances (such as juice, vinegar, wine, etc.)
that may affect the color or sheen of your stone. Regularly
reseal your stone and grout, especially in high-traffic or high-moisture
areas. Consult the sealant manufacturer information for specific
guidelines.

Use protective mats
Good quality entry and exit mats will help trap dirt, soil and grime
that will abrade and discolor the surface of your stone and grout.
Vacuum and/or clean these mats frequently to remove the trapped
dirt and minimize the risk of transfer to the floor.
Use protective trivets
Common food items and dishware can etch and scratch your stone.
It is highly recommended that you use trivets and coasters to protect
your stone surface from stains and damage.
Use floor protectors under furniture
Use felt pad protectors under furniture legs to avoid scratching
and marring of the tile surface. Casters should be free from
small particles of sand, dirt and debris. Beware of metal
furniture on the tile surface that may rust and cause staining.
Always protect the floor when moving heavy furniture or appliances.
Minimize direct UV sunlight exposure
The colors in natural stone can change and fade over time.
The use of approved area rugs and frequent adjustment of blinds
or shades during peak hours can help to minimize this.
