The Floor Store is fully committed to the stewardship of our natural resources and environment.  We seek partnership with manufacturers who understand the value in using recycled and renewable raw materials as well as minimizing environmental impact throughout the manufacturing process.  It is our sincere belief that success is directly related to integrity maintained through ethical and responsible business practices.

Technological advances have shown great improvement in the quality of eco-friendly harvesting and production processes as well as in the durability and performance of eco-friendly products.

The Floor Store proudly features many types of environmentally responsible flooring that are not only beautiful but durable as well.  Our offerings include:

Carpet

  • Mohawk is one of the oldest and largest manufacturers of carpet fiber. Mohawk annually recycles 25% of all plastic bottles in North America to create its EverStrand residential carpet. That keeps almost THREE BILLION bottles out of landfills each year!
  • Mohawk also produces a fiber called SmartStrand with a DuPont Sorona polymer that saves our petroleum resources by using renewable agricultural components instead.
  • All Mohawk carpets carry the CRI (Carpet and Rug Institute) label assuring the highest standards of indoor air quality.
  • Karastan, also part of the Mohawk family, is one of the largest purchasers of New Zealand wool from farmers who use techniques that preserve the beauty and integrity of the land on which they farm.  Wool is a healthy choice in carpet because it is non-allergenic and does not enable growth of bacteria.  It emits no toxins and can actually help improve indoor air quality.  Karastan’s woven wool products are so durable they can last up to twice as long as normal tufted carpets and therefore help reduce landfill contributions and energy consumption.
  • Beaulieu of America also produces carpet using recycled post-consumer soft drink bottles.  All Beaulieu carpets meet the CRI (Carpet and Rug Institute) standards for indoor air quality and our offerings include products with new technological advancements in odor control using Magic Fresh, an environmentally-friendly carpet treatment that absorbs and controls everyday household odors, including cigarette smoke.

Ceramic Tile

  • Mohawk makes ceramic tile in facilities that reuse 100% of the water required for production.

Laminate

  • Mohawk produces laminate flooring that contains 75% pre-consumer recycled materials.  Mohawk also uses fast-growing southern pine from harvesters that plant up to six times more trees than are used.  Wood waste from their manufacturing process is reused as bio-fuel for heating.

Hardwood

  • Reclaimed: The Floor Store offers several choices in wood flooring from Mohawk that are made from wood that was previously used in another capacity, such as in old buildings.  The wood chosen by Mohawk is taken from old southern textile mills that symbolize our American Industrial Revolution, the Old Crow Bourbon Mill in Kentucky and from aged, log-style buildings built in China as long ago as the Ming Dynasty.  Reusing the wood helps extend its life and maximize this precious resource as well as preserve history.  This old, hardened and durable wood features the original antiquing and distressing which enhances its character and beauty.  Most importantly, it reduces the need to use new wood which saves trees and energy normally used during harvesting and production.
  • Renewable: We also offer a variety of wood and wood-alternative choices obtained from certified producers that are committed to maintaining healthy and self-regenerating forests:
    • One great choice to consider is bamboo.  It is a wood-alternative and one of the most rapidly renewable products available.  Bamboo is plentiful and can be properly harvested in only four to seven years after planting.  Bamboo flooring, as well as many wood species from Eco-Timber are FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) certified and made using adhesives that meet the highest standards of indoor air quality.
    • Cork is another product used for flooring that is generally considered environmentally-friendly.  It is made of bark from trees that can be harvested about once every 10 years.  Cork and its byproducts are typically highly recyclable.

Other Natural Products

  • The Floor Store also offers a variety of renewable, durable natural fiber floor coverings such as sisal, coir and seagrass.
